Symphony on the Square just celebrated its 5th anniversary and is preparing to celebrate their first five years in style at the historic Earl Smith Strand Theatre in the heart of downtown Marietta. The concert will feature a mixture of Americana selections associated with the early American sounds from “Ashokan Farewell” from the Ken Burns PBS Civil War series, which is now celebrating its 25th anniversary, to Aaron Copland’s “Hoe-Down” from Rodeo, and mixed into that group will be the music from the movie, “The Patriot,” a medley of four American folk songs and other pieces that have that unique Americana feel to them. Since we are often referred to as Marietta’s Pops Orchestra, we also have some fun pops pieces including a medley from the James Bonds movies, a suite of tunes from the Harry Potter movie series, music from ” The Gladiator” movie, “Band of Brothers,” and even a great opening piece featuring the music from “Phantom of the Opera.” The concert is very family-friendly and is on Friday evening, May 15th at 7:00. Tickets are $15.00 and are available at the Strand box office. Call them at 770.293.0080 or visit them online at www.earlsmithstrand.org.
